La Comisión Europea (CE) ha confirmado a Podemos que ha reclamado más información al Gobierno de España sobre la mina de uranio de Retortillo (Salamanca) y que ha urgido a España a que informe de dicho proyecto así como de los posibles efectos radiológicos transfronterizos ante las instituciones europeas, según lo establecido por el artículo 37 del Tratado Euratom.
La CE se ha expresado así en una respuesta ante una pregunta por escrito remitida por el eurodiputado de Podemos Xabier Benito. En dicha respuesta, la CE asegura que ha solicitado información añadida a España puesto que el informe de impacto ambiental español concluyó en 2013 mientras que el informe de la Agencia Portuguesa de Medio Ambiente, que sí alerta de posibles riesgos y efectos peligrosos de esta mina, es de 2016.
"Nuevamente se confirma el mal hacer de las autoridades de nuestro país en el cumplimiento de la legislación europea y ante nuestro vecino Portugal: tendrá que pronunciarse sobre el informe portugués que alerta de los impactos transfronterizos de la mina de uranio y aún tiene pendiente remitir la información de la mina en base al artículo 37 de Euratom", señala Benito.
"Entre el comisario Miguel Arias Cañete, su amigo el lobista Lamela, y Berkeley, parece que no conocen o no quieren conocer la legislación internacional, y se descubre la chapuza que han montado para que la mina de uranio saliese adelante sin informes de impacto rigurosos y enviando el mínimo de información posible", critica el eurodiputado de Podemos.

Benito recuerda que mañana viernes, 16 de marzo, se debatirán en el Parlamento de Portugal proposiciones de todos los grupos parlamentarios para instar al Gobierno luso a que exija a España el cumplimiento del protocolo de actuación de proyectos con impacto transfronterizo, firmado en 2008 por ambos Estados.
El eurodiputado de Podemos ha manifestado su apoyo "pleno y rotundo" al grupo de activistas de Stop Uranio que va a estar presente en Lisboa para visibilizar la lucha que mantienen desde hace cinco años contra la multinacional australiana para que no se abra la mina en Salamanca.
Benito recuerda que "la Agencia Portuguesa de Medio Ambiente determinó en su informe de impacto ambiental, que menciona la Comisión Europea, que el proyecto de la empresa Berkeley tiene efectos significativos en Portugal por el régimen de vientos de E-NE y por la probabilidad de contaminación del río Yeltes, que vierte sus aguas en el Parque Natural del Duero Internacional".
"Hay que agradecer a las miles de personas que se mantienen activas y en lucha en la región contra este proyecto y que están ayudando a destapar esta trama de amiguismos, corrupción y destrucción del entorno, tanto el medio ambiental como el económico de la región", concluye Benito.
